YEAR 1

Year 1 welcomed 5 new students in their class this term with 2 more to join next term. They have settled in well in the class and made some good friendships.

The students have been working hard in class, a big transition from Foundation class, and more expectations in terms of reading and writing. We focussed on writing descriptions this term and while most have shown a grasp of the structure, some still need more reinforcing and therefore I will be sending a few writing tasks home to practise during the holidays.

The History Project “My Family Tree” looked great with some different ways that they were presented. Here are snapshots of the projects:

The Cooking elective is being thoroughly enjoyed by students too. They are writing recipes, cooking and then enjoying the food they get to make.

Students also participated in an excursion to the Motor Museum and were amazed to see bikes, cars and motorbikes from olden days and compared them with the modern ones. They also showed a lot of enthusiasm during the Brave Hearts Incursion which teaches about personal safety.

Harmony Day was celebrated with lots of discussion in class about respect, inclusiveness, living in peace and harmony and this was followed by the picnic at school. It was great to see most of the students in their traditional outfits.

Thank you parents for all your support during the term and enjoy the 2 week break with your children.
